Help for researchers went live on Wednesday 15 October. These new pages replaced the long-standing ‘Collections’ and ‘Services’ areas of our website.

Why have we done this?
Users who were unfamiliar with the way the Library is organised told us that the previous structure was hard for them to grasp. The new design and navigation make it easier for potential researchers to find out how we can help them.
The information on each page is largely the same as before - although we have added some new pages (on the social sciences collections, for example).
You will be able to use the search box or browse for content in a number of ways. Namely, by:
- Subject
- Time period
- Region
- Language
- Resource type
- British Library department
The majority of these 2,000+ pages give information about our collections which may be hard to find in the catalogues. There are links in the right-hand margin of every page to our services: whether delivered in the Reading Rooms, remotely, or by our expert research staff. Try the new Help for researchers here
What else is new?
We recently launched a new Online Gallery with over 30,000 images, online exhibitions and virtual books. Find out more about the new look Online Gallery here
And of course we've revised our home page (with four tabs) to bring more of our content to the top level.
