NEWS UPDATE ON THE COLLECTION MOVES
22 September 2008

The construction of the new storage building at Boston Spa, West Yorkshire, is progressing on time, with completion due in late Autumn. Premier Moves Ltd has now been appointed as the contractor to manage the transfer of material from London sites and its installation in this new building.

We will be preparing for Phase 1 of the collection moves, which starts in January 2009, by transferring a limited amount of material in November 2008. These will be Foreign Official Publications, with the following shelfmark ranges:

SE French publications
SG Greek publications
SH Italian publications
SJ Dutch publications

The movement of this stock between buildings at Boston Spa will enable us to start Phase 1, by freeing storage space. These items will only be unavailable for a few weeks; they are not part of the minimum nine months embargo in Phase 1.

The minimum nine months embargo period will not affect St Pancras high-use material e.g. rare books, monographs, standard-use monographs, maps, sound archive and music scores.

At the end of November 2008, full details of the low-use items involved in the embargo period will be made available. As this is a rolling programme, it will include the planned times for when particular items will be transferred to the new storage facility at Boston Spa. Once items are moved, they will be unavailable during this minimum nine months move period.

In addition, we will soon issue the next Collection Moves News Bulletin, with news on the small quantity of newspaper collection items that will transfer from Colindale to Boston Spa, part of Phase 2 of the collection moves, starting at the end of 2009.
