Success Story of the Month

Over 75,000 entrepreneurs have benefited from using the Business & IP Centre since it opened in 2006. Every month we'll showcase some of the 'success stories' of the entrepreneurs and inventors who have used the Library to help them start and grow their business.

January 2009: Jim Shaikh, Feed Me Bottles Ltd

Jim Shaikh began with a practical problem. When getting up in the night to warm up milk for his baby, he invariably overheated the milk. As an engineer, Jim was able to develop a solution to this problem: a self-heating bottle.

Once he'd developed the idea, Jim used the Business & IP Centre to establish whether it was original, doing some research into existing patents. Intellectual property workshops at the Centre helped him to learn the skills needed for this research.

After a patent search, Jim investigated potential funding sources using the wide range of free-to-access databases that are available at the Library.
